Notes

A much loved and remembered series that brought the world the pairing of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore though that wasn't the original intent. The BBC offered Dudley a TV show and for the first show, invited his ex-Beyond The Fringe partner Peter Cook to guest for a couple of comedy sketches. Also appearing performing some of his poetry was none other than John Lennon, hence it was originally titled "Not Only Dudley Moore... But Also..." followed by the names of the guests. It was obvious straight away that the chemistry between Cook and Moore was comedy Gold so from then on, Cook became an equal partner and presence in the shows.

Three series were made, the first between 1964 and 1965, and the second in 1966. 1967 saw them working on the "Bedazzled" movie after which they did a series for Lew Grade at ATV "Goodbye Again" in 1968. They returned to the BBC for a third series of NOBA in the opening months of 1970, now in colour.

Unfortunately, yet again, the BBC treated this badly in the archives. Most of the first series exists. Less than half of the second series is left. A one off Christmas special from 1966 is intact and again featured John Lennon making a cameo. The entire third series was wiped and all that remains are various film inserts which is a pity since that series featured live rock acts guesting as well as a spot called "Poetry Cornered" where Cook, Moore and a star guest (including Spike Milligan and even Alan Bennett) had to adlib poetry sat around a tank of gunge... when one slipped up, into the gunk they went!
