I have seen a great many television shows over a period of almost 60 years, but must declare that I did not see every episode of every series......I must have been the original channel-surfer.

That stated, which I'm sure regarding viewing of episodes must be surely replicated amongst the members, I saw few and far between of this series at the time of original transmission 1969-1973, but a UK channel runs (or ran) repeats of episodes, and I caught a few.

They really haven't worn that well, and were obviously produced on a "starvation" budget, nevertheless they are of the time, the late 60s when many people cannot recall what went on, as they had not yet been born.

I never knew that Olive and Arthur were Mr. & Mrs Rudge...........how many of you remember that the name of RUDGE was a famous UK Bicycle Manufacturer.....?

Get them busses out, Butler! I knew a bus driver who worked for Sid Fogg's Buses in the Newcastle(Aust.) suburb of Stockton, His name is Andrew Butler but his middle name was - you guessed it, "Stanley". He'd get the usual "Blakey" line thrown at him on occasions but the joke wore thin after a while.

The real stars for me were Blakey, Arthur and Olive. Doris Hare was much better as "Mum" as well and had some great moments. I can take and leave the two leading guys, they have their moments but it's the Arthur and Olive stuff and Blakey being... well... Blakey that makes me laugh.

There's some good episodes and some bad ones... there seemed to be a few with union issues which get Jack doing his almighty "speaking as shop steward" bit which I find utterly tedious though of course that was a major issue at the time.

Apparently when Reg Varney left, the viewing figures took a tumble which is a shame because I actually rather enjoy the few episodes they did after he left!

You're forgetting Cicely Courtnedge(Australian-born) who played "Mum" in series 1, and Doris Hare who took over that role from series 2 onwards, and not forgetting Michael Robins as Arthur, Stan's brother-in-law. Aah yes, always great for a laugh! We didn't get to see this in colour until 1975, but even in reruns it was still great comedy!
