One of the longest-running children's series in US TV history, there were actually many different versions of Romper Room broadcast in the US as the series was not only produced in a national version, but it was also franchised to local broadcasters who replaced the national version with their own regional adaptations. The concept was also adapted in dozens of countries, including in Canada who aired a near-identical - but Canadianized - version of the US show. Often the different versions used the same scripts, only substituting local children.

The series changed its name to Romper Room and Friends in the early 1980s.
