TV Series
Notes Pop music showcase series created to replace the country western/folk-themed series Hootenanny. The series included a focus on British Invasion artists (with some episodes taped in London), and was one of the few US series other than Ed Sullivan on which the Beatles performed. One of the show's regular dancers, Teri Garr, later acted in Star Trek and films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The show's assistant choreographer, Toni Basil, went on to become a pop star in the 1980s with her song, "Mickey". The success of Shindig leg to a number of imitation series being launched, the most successful of which was Hullabaloo. On DVD & Blu-ray World LaserDisc Shindig!
