The first spin off from "Z Cars" which had ended at the end of 1965 (but would return in 1967), "Softly, Softly" continued the adventures of the popular characters Barlow and Watt working in a new town and positions... unusually for the time, like the series that preceded it, the earliest episodes were actually broadcast live. It ran for 5 series (120 episodes - a good number of them lost, especially the first two series) ending on 13th November 1969. The following week, it returned in colour under a new format and name, "Softly Softly Taskforce"
