Based upon the novels by Robert B. Parker.

Spin-off: A Man Called Hawk. Followed by four made-for-TV films with the original cast aired between 1993 and 1995. These films were made concurrent with Avery Brooks starring in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; as a result, in order to allow Brooks to retain Hawk's bald appearance for the movies, DS9's Capt. Sisko also shaved his head, and remained bald thereafter.

Followed by a series of TV movies in the late 1990s with a new cast including Joe Mantegna as Spenser.
