Based upon the 1994 film Stargate, SG-1 was the first American-produced science fiction series to run for 10 seasons.
Established the Stargate TV franchise and was followed by spin-offs Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe and the animated spin-off Stargate Infinity. The original series also spun off two made-for-DVD motion pictures: Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.
After original star Richard Dean Anderson left the series as a regular, he was replaced by Ben Browder, known for his leading role in Farscape. Later, Browder's Farscape co-star Claudia Black also joined the series. The Farscape connection was noted in the anniversary episode 200 that saw the Stargate SG-1 cast, in a brief fantasy sequence, impersonate the characters of Farscape.
