TV Series
Notes Parody of reality competition series. The concept placed a genuine contestant - who was unaware the series was a hoax - in among a group of improvisational actors performing as various reality TV stereotypes. While the "Joe Schmo" legitimately attempted to complete the competition, the actors and producers are kept on their toes reacting to changes in the storyline caused usually by the contestant beginning to grow wise about the hoax. Three series were aired, two in 2003-2004 and a third a decade later, with heavily disguised actor Ralph Garman acting as host each time. The first two series spoofed lavish dating series and contestant Matt Kennedy Gould's shocked "What's going on?" reaction upon learning the truth became a national catchphrase for a while. Joe Schmo 2 upped the ante by introducing a male and a female "Schmo", but when Ingrid Wiese realized it was a hoax early on, she was offered a chance to become a cast member and a replacement "Schmo" was brought on to complete the series. The third series, subtitled The Full Bounty, now had the "Schmo" competing to become a bounty hunter. The cast for this one included Lorenzo Lamas, star of the bounty hunter series Renegade, appearing as a parody of himself. Adapted for New Zealand TV as Living the Dream. Also adapted for French and Spanish TV.
