Followed by a series of four specials that aired during the 1986-1987 season, and a 1990 reunion TV movie. A revival series, set in the same continuity but with new characters titled The Love Boat: The Next Wave aired from 1998 to 1999.

Set in the same universe as both Fantasy Island and Charlie's Angels as there were crossovers between the series.

Although not considered a sitcom, the series nonetheless originally aired with a laugh track.
