TV Series
Notes Iconic sitcom based upon the Max Shulman short stories; the series helped popularize the "beatnik" image in American pop culture. Preceded by a 1953 musical, The Affairs of Dobie Gillis, and a 1957 pilot produced by George Burns, with different cast members. Followed by Whatever Happened to Dobis Gillis? a 1977 reunion special that was originally a pilot for a planned sequel series, and Bring Me the Head of Dobie Gillis, a 1988 TV movie that once again reunited original cast members. The series title was shortened to Dobie Gillis in its second season, with the creator's name added to the title in later episodes and syndication.
