TV Series
Notes The longest running show on BBC Television, which save for a one month pause has run continuously since April 24th 1957. Broadcast once a month in a late night graveyard spot it focused on Astronomy and started just as the Space Race was getting underway. Sir Patrick Moore hosted the show from day one right up till his death in December 2012, appearing for the final time on the following months show thanks to his links being pre-recorded - a probable world record for single host of a TV show. It continues to this day on BBC 4. Until the Noughties when Moore became too frail to travel, most of the shows were broadcast live. Hence it's archive status is variable. The earliest existing show dates from 1960 and there's around 20 shows left from that decade. The early 70's is spotty but from 1976, the archive is complete. Comments and Reviews
