TV Series
Notes The Tim Conway Show was Tim Conway’s second staring role in a comedy series (the first was Rango). Tim played Tim “Spud” Barrett the only pilot and part time owner of the “Anywhere, Anytime, Airlines”. His business partner is the president of the airlines, Herbert T. Kenworth (played by his McHale’s Navy co-star Joe Flynn). Herbert is often annoyed by Tim but works with him because he easily gets air sick and is terrified of flying. Together they try to manage the airport’s one airplane Lucky Linda, a Beechcraft Model 18. They are always competing with a much more successful airline, Crawford Airlines owned by Mrs. K.J Crawford and her son Ronnie. The other two employees of the Triple A are Sherman Bell the control tower operator and the owner of the terminal dinner Harry Werzel. The series premiered on January 30, 1970 at 8:00 PM on CBS. The series first two episodes had a AA Homes Rating of about 12.9. After five episodes the series was taken off the air for a bit (along with the show that preceded it, Get Smart) for a 7 week special CBS News Adventure”. Both shows returned to air on April 24, 1970 with Tim’s show airing 8 more episodes before being cancelled for low ratings. It’s final episode aired June 12, 1970 and was replaced by reruns of the classic one season wonder, He & She. A little over three months later Tim would return to television this time in a variety series called The Tim Conway Comedy Hour.
