Groundbreaking newsmagazine that combined hard news, investigative journalism, comedy routines and music. Seen as a forerunner of more-serious shows such as W5 and 60 Minutes (with Watson later joining W5 himself), as well as later satire-based shows mixed with serious news content such as The Daily Show. The later CBC comedy series This Hour Has 22 Minutes was directly inspired by this show.

Controversial from the start, the series was cancelled by the CBC after two years. Due to the CBC being government funded the resulting public outcry resulted in the Prime Minister launching a parliamentary committee into the decision to cancel. Despite this, archived episodes from Seven Days were rebroadcast by the CBC during 2001.
