Originally titled Toast of the Town; the series changed its title to The Ed Sullivan Show in September 1955.

At 24 seasons, it remains the longest running prime-time variety series in US TV history (Saturday Night Live is considered a late-night program, not prime time). Its most famous broadcast, an appearance by The Beatles, remains one of the most-watched broadcasts of all time.

George Slv 2nd Nov 2017		Shows are being aired now on the US Decades channel. They are cut to 30 minutes, favoring music acts. http://www.decades.com/schedule/ Anyone have a mind to record them? And to add this comment, for all the hype about Sullivan being stiff, you should see in the earliest episodes how the opening had him running in from the side hopping down stairs past dancers.
