This Sherwood Schwartz-created sitcom had an unusually long gestation period, as its original pilot (with a different cast and character names) aired as an episode The Brady Bunch in 1974 (it is not, however, considered a spin-off).

Quan was best known at the time for co-starring in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

After the first 6 episodes aired, the series was taken off the schedule by CBS, at which point Gould left the series (his character being killed off). It returned in early 1987 with a new format, and a new title, Nothing is Easy. It was ultimately cancelled after its 13th episode.
