Notes

Extremely long-running, comedy-themed game show. Originated on radio in 1940 and the radio version continued to air until 1957. A single televised broadcast of the radio series occurred in July 1941, becoming the first telecast of a game show. The TV series later in 1957 became the first TV series to be regularly broadcast using videotape. It was also the first successful syndicated (non-network) game show.

Notable for establishing Bob Barker as a TV star during his 18-year stint as host which overlapped his hosting of the early seasons of the revival of The Price is Right.

The original run (in a mix of network and syndicated airings) went from 1950 to 1974. It returned as The New Truth or Consequences for one season in 1977-78. A decade later it was revived for one further season.

The series was so popular that, in 1950, to mark its tenth anniversary on radio, the town of Hot Springs, New Mexico, officially renamed itself Truth or Consequences.
