This show began life in 1958 as inserts for BBC TV's "Tonight" then in the 1960's was spun off into a show of it's own. Despite being one of the first BBC shows to be made in colour, Whicker was a shareholder in Yorkshire Television so left the BBC in 1968. Most of it's run was on YTV though Whicker did return to the BBC in 1984 before leaving again in 1992.
