BiggieTembo 5th Jun 2015		Re. the George Best appearance on Wogan. He appeared, as I remember, on a Jonathan Ross interview show (The Last Resort?) shortly after the Wogan debacle. Playing along with the gag, Best skillfully walked along a straight white line on his way to the interview couch, in a mock drunk-test! At least he had some self-irony ;-)

TopPopper 4th Jun 2015		Funnily enough, my best memory of the show was when Wogan was away on holiday or something, and Joanna Lumley took his seat. They took the catastrophic decision to allow Spike Milligan (and his old pal, Harry Secombe) onto the stage, and Milligan just destroyed the interview. It didn't help that an audience member gate-crashed the stage during proceedings, and Spike even stood up for him. At one point, the inexperienced Lumley asked him how he used to entertain the troops when he was in the army. He replied, "I used to drop my trousers and whistle Ave Maria". A bit later he interrupted her to say, "God, this is boring" - a joke, but she just didn't know how to react. Needless to say, she didn't pursue a career as a chat show host.



Monolith 4th Jun 2015		I didn't say I enjoyed it, just that it was memorable. I idolised Best from the 1968 Euro final onwards and it saddened me to see what he'd become.



TopPopper 4th Jun 2015		I'm of the opposite opinion. I think that was a pretty sad moment for a great footballer. "I like screwing" from an ageing drunk was just embarrassing, I thought.
