Quad5point1 3rd Oct 2015 | | TVCrown Court (1972 - 1984) | @Neil Forbes. Personally I'm all in favour of the Licence fee. It's great to have ad free television. But out of the increased BBC output the only channels I now watch are BBC4 and BBC 2 and BBC 1 sporadically. I think they waste too much on CBeebies CBBC and the general dumbing down of BBC 1 with reality TV to a point where it may as well be handed over to the independent sector. The jewel in the crown though is BBC 4. It's like Auntie Beeb has gathered together all the ideas and people from the 60's and the 70's with the brief to keep alive the spirit of the BBC. I never watch commercial television at all, always record and fast forward through the ads and if the show is worth having I will buy it on disc. What's that line from The Wall, "I've got thirteen channels of s**t on my TV to choose from" It's more like 1300 now :-)

Quad5point1 2nd Oct 2015 | | TVCrown Court (1972 - 1984) | As bad as it was I think it's a lot more entertaining than watching has-beens in the jungle eating bugs, dancing, baking, cooking, antique hunting or any of a hundred different ways to humiliate people, now that's really really bad. I despair at the TV today which is why I own so many Discs. If I had the choice I would definitely go back to a time when TV was more entertaining and educational, especially educational. We're all drowning in a sea of absolute Dross. Personally I blame it all on Margaret Thatcher ;-)

Quad5point1 2nd Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | @Neil Forbes. I would agree with 23skidoo. My DVD drives do the same thing here ie, allow 5 changes before locking. I solved the problem though by mounting a second drive and locking one to R1 and another to R2. I later added a Blu-Ray drive and really didn't want to buy another one so I bought a piece of software from SlySoft called AnyDVD HD. This gives a software solution to playing R1 & R2 in any drive and doesn't mess with the locking problem. As for the Blu-Ray under the TV I know that you can't make the Blu-Ray multi Region but you can "Adjust" the DVD end to Multi-Region. In my case I have a Panasonic Blu-Ray with Freeview HD recorder. I was able to buy a remote control unit off ebay which was pretty much a point and shoot affair that unlocked the DVD to be able to play discs from any region.

Quad5point1 2nd Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | @23skidoo. I didn't know you were using the drive in your computer as a DVD player, If that's the case you could buy a second drive and have one permanently on R1 and the other on R2, they are so cheap to buy these days, on ebay they're around £12. If you have a player under your TV you look for a site like here and follow instructions. Easy

Quad5point1 1st Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | Every player I've ever owned I have been able to find a code to make it multi-region. Is it not the same at your end ??

Quad5point1 1st Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | @TheJudge. Thanks for the lesson, it always puzzled me that one
|
Quad5point1 1st Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | Cheers H, wish I knew how to do that
|
Quad5point1 1st Oct 2015 | | TVThe Champions (1968 - 1969) | If you get your skates on 23skidoo this box set can be got here http://networkonair.com/shop/search?doit=search&orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=the+champions for the princely sum of £13. But it's only on offer for a few more days

Quad5point1 27th Sep 2015 | | TVThe Casual Vacancy (2015) | Thanks for that 23skidoo, I wasn't sure so left it open
|
Quad5point1 27th Sep 2015 | | TVMax Headroom (1987 - 1988) | Is this the same show that was broadcast in the UK ??. My memory is a bit muddled by this one, I seem to remember a show where Max talked about various things and introduced music video clips and talked to other "celebs". If this series was available I would love to have it.

Quad5point1 14th Sep 2015 | | TVSurvivors [2008 - 2010] (2008 - 2010) | Yep Have to agree, had really been looking forward to see what Tom Price was gonna do to Landry in that aeroplane
|
Quad5point1 1st Sep 2015 | | TVSurvivors [1975-1977] (1975 - 1977) | I added in the later series to TV World. From what I remember it pretty much started the story all over again and wasn't a sequel. I do have it on DVD so must dig it out and watch again. I remember really enjoying it though and was disappointed it didn't return.

Quad5point1 30th Aug 2015 | | TVTalking Heads (1988 - 1998) | If you look at the episode guide there are only 12 episodes with only three actresses doing two shows, all the others are one off appearances. The list is as follows
Alan Bennett plays Graham Whittaker in "A Chip in the Sugar"
Patricia Routledge plays Irene in "A Lady of Letters"
Maggie Smith plays Susan in "Bed Among the Lentils"
Stephanie Cole plays Muriel in "Soldiering On"
Julie Walters plays Lesley in "Her Big Chance"
Thora Hird plays Doris in "A Cream Cracker under the Settee"
Patricia Routledge plays Miss Fozzard in "Miss Fozzard Finds Her Feet"
Eileen Atkins plays Celia in "The Hand of God"
David Haig plays Wilfred Paterson in "Playing Sandwiches"
Julie Walters plays Marjory in "The Outside Dog"
Penelope Wilton plays Rosemary in "Nights in the Gardens of Spain"
Thora Hird plays Violet in "Waiting for the Telegram"
Patricia Routledge = 2 Episodes - "A Lady of Letters" - "Miss Fozzard Finds Her Feet"
Thora Hird = 2 Episodes - "A Cream Cracker under the Settee" - "Waiting for the Telegram"
Julie Walters = 2 Episodes - "Her Big Chance" - "The Outside Dog"
All others have only 1 Episode, so I think it's hard unless you can list all of them. For me three of the best episodes are the ones done by Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton and Eileen Atkins

Quad5point1 31st Jul 2015 | | TVAppropriate Adult (2011) | Well Jon Foster who reviews it on Amazon says "Appropriate Adult is, crucially, given two feature length episodes to tell its story".
A TV movie is a one off, one viewing piece and not episodic. The definition of episode or episodic can be looked up quite easily such as
"Episode
An episode is a coherent narrative unit within a larger dramatic work such as a film or television series. An episode is to a sequence as a chapter is to a book. Most are from 20 to 40 minutes in length. Wikipedia"
Personally, for programmes such as this another category needs to be created, ie, Docudrama because most true life dramas are serialised on TV over 1, 2, 3 or 4 episodes

Quad5point1 30th Jul 2015 | | TV3-2-1 (1978 - 1988) | Was reading through this thread and went to look at his Wikipedia entry

Obviously somebody else didn't like him
