Bill Owen, who co-wrote The Match Girls, is best remembered playing Compo [from the long running BBC comedy series called Last Of The Summer Wine for 295 episodes and originally broadcast from 1973 to 2010]. Also he co-wrote Marianne [from an Italian song] for Cliff Richard as a UK hit single in 1968 [reaching no.22 in the UK charts] for EMI/Columbia.
