Atlantic stereo masters, 100 series (1958-67)Oct. 1958 - Apr. 1967, coinciding with the period when mono was issued in concurrence._______________ As with many labels, Atlantic Records assigned internal master numbers to LP sides. Monaural releases came first, and bore numbers in the 10000 series. When stereo releases commenced in 1958, these were assigned a unique series of numbers starting at 101 and prefixed with the mastering year. There are several reasons why these numbers are significant, and well worth tracking. First off, the master numbers cut across Atlantic's entire swath of subsidiary and distributed labels...lending order to the mayhem of its output! The numbers were a continuous series, with each year picking up where the previous one left off. The stereo series also lasted for nearly 40 years, with numbers racking up from 101 to the 7000s and beyond in the 1990s. The master numbers were also assigned at the mastering stage, fairly late in the gestation period for musical projects. This means that they correlate more closely with release order than catalogue numbers do, and are useful for dating.List of 231 Vinyl Albums by andrewt3660 Page 1 of 5 : Previous : Next :
