confranfan SUBS 12th Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Spanish Favorites | BOBO RECORDS releas
BOBO label
Bobo is believed to be a bootleg label. However, since the above album was reviewed in the local music press alongside known official releases, there remains a possibility of it being a bona fide Turkish pressing.
Same content as USA LP MGM SE 3853 CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS SPANISH & LATIN AMERICAN FAVORITES but given shortened title and supplied in a different picture sleeve. The sleeve is the same as that of GERMANY LP MGM 665 046 SPANISH FAVORITES.

confranfan SUBS 12th Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Let´s Have A Party With Connie Francis (1991) | STAR-CLUB RECORDS release
DOLLY RECORDS label
Star-Club Records is a Swedish company specializing in golden oldies. The product gives the appearance of being an approved sub-licensed compilation since album liner states "Original Sound Recording Controlled by PolyGram Records. Re-release by STAR-CLUB Records".
Liner and spine give label/number details as STAR-CLUB DOLLY 33-6.204. The label itself is clearly DOLLY RECORDS and the catalog set out as above. Album front features color shot used on USA LP MATI-MOR 8002 BRYLCREAM PRESENTS SING ALONG WITH CONNIE FRANCIS, as well as reproduction of original BRITAIN EMI extended-play MGM EP 773 HEY RING-A-DING
Despite acknowledgement of "Original Sound Recording Controlled by PolyGram Records", the above does not feature an official sub-licensing statement. Moreover, the compilation is rendered suspect by its inclusion of MAIL CALL - culled from the original USA MGM motion picture soundtrack LP MGM E/SE 4355 WHEN THE BOY MEET THE GIRLS. All selections on that album are outside the terms of the Polydor takeover of the MGM Records label. In 1991, MGM motion picture soundtracks were licensed to Sony in the U.S. and to EMI in the UK. In the absence of a new licensing agreement with PolyGram, or a separate sub-licensing deal taken out by Star-Club Records with the holders of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer soundtrack material, a breach of copyright may be assumed to have taken place.
A2: Singles version
A3: Second recording
A6: Complete recording

confranfan SUBS 11th Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Canta En Espanol (1979) | EMI-ODEON S.A. release
UNITED ARTISTS label
The above album is a result of the brief association between Connie Francis and United Artists and is a Spanish edition of selections for UK LP UNITED ARTISTS UAS 30182 WHO'S HAPPY NOW? The LP was recorded after the English sessions, with selections retaining the same orchestrations and arrangements.
Also issued on MC UNITED ARTISTS 10C 264-062.620.
Only 10 tracks are contained on the above LP - the first four on Side 1, and remaining six on Side 2. They are Spanish versions of English-sung titles recorded in London in April and May 1978. The Spanish versions of WHERE THE BOYS ARE (Donde Hay Chicos) and LOVIN' MAN (El Hombre Que Sone), recorded in London in September 1978 have not been included. These two tracks, plus the 10 listed above, feature on MEXICO LP UNITED ARTISTS SLEM-849 (33C 062-62253) also titled CONNIE EN ESPANOL, and COLOMBIA EMI 11707 POR TI MI SIENTO MUJER. Tracking order of the above selections follows that of the Mexico and Colombia releases without the inclusion of DONDE HAY CHICOS and EL HOMBRE QUE SONE - hence only four titles featuring on Side 1. Loss of tapes was blamed for this. Album liner is black & white reproduction of front.
MY HAPPINESS and RAINY DAY BELLS were recorded in English but not released. Their intended place on the WHO'S HAPPY NOW? album were taken by WHERE THE BOYS ARE and A-BA-NI-BI, both recorded after the main album sessions.
A1: You Bring Out The Best Of The Woman In Me
A2: Hebre & Spanish
A3: Rainy Day Bells
A4: Whisperin'
B1: My Mother's Eyes
B2: My Happiness
B3: Cryin' In The Rain
B4: Till I Kissed Ya
B5: What Have I Got, I Got You Babe
B6: Far And Near Forever And Always
Also added composer credits.

confranfan SUBS 5th Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Canta En Espanol Y En Stereo Vol.2 (1967) | FONOGRAM S.A. release
MGM label
The above is an exclusive SPAIN FONOGRAM S.A. compilation. Liner and labels list TU AMOR as LA PALOMA, THE WEDDING as LA NOVIA, LOVE ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART as CUANDO CALIENTA EL SOL, and MI TONTO AMOR as EL NOVIO DE OTRA. EL NOVIO DE OTRA, a literal translation of SOMEONE ELSE'S BOY, is the title given to the English track by both Hispavox and Fonogram on EPs on which it is featured. The Spanish-sung version is correctly known as MI TONTO AMOR.
Front of sleeve displays album titles as "CONNIE FRANCIS CANTA EN ESPANOL Y EN STEREO VOL. II"; liner presents it as "CONNIE FRANCIS CANTA EN ESPANOL Y EN STEREO - Vol. II" and labels state "CONNIE FRANCIS CANTA EN ESPANOL Y EN STEREO (Vol. II)".

A3: Tonight's My Night - Spanish version

confranfan SUBS 2nd Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Hawai Connie (1969) | TRUTONE PTY LTD release
MGM label
Same content as USA LP MGM SE 4522 but supplied in different design sleeve.
Sleeve features picture of sea, rocks and sand, on which has been drawn the word "HAWAII". Inexplicably, both the above and GREAT BRITAIN MGM CS 8110, with its use of a picture of pink and white water lilies, failed to use the Hawaiian-style pose of Connie Francis as depicted on the US LP counterpart.
Added:
- scan of reverse side of album cover
- scans of both label sides

confranfan SUBS 1st Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Souvenir Album (1967) | TRUTONE PTY LTD release
MGM label
Trutone Pty Ltd took over release and distribution rights of the MGM label from EMI Brigadiers S.A. Pty Ltd in June 1967. Until the Polydor takeover, the company assigned mono MGM releases an "E" prefix similar to that of the U.S., but followed by a local number. Stereo issues were denoted by "ES" with an "S" following the "E", unlike the U.S. where it preceded it. The above album, issued in mono only, is unique among all worldwide Connie Francis LP releases. It is the only album ever to have been officially manufactured and released to track at 16 2/3 rpm. While this process does not provide as fine a reproduction as conventional LPs, it nevertheless enabled Trutone to cram a then unprecedented 24 titles onto a single album.
A3: Second recording
A8: Second recording
A9: Second recording
A12: La Novia
B1: Lara's Theme from "Doctor Zhivago" - Third recording with intro
B5: Abridged version - overdubbed accompaniment
B10: Second dual-tracked LP version
B12: Italian & English version
The sleeve features picture first used on USA LP MGM E/SE 4382 MOVIE GREATS OF THE 60s. Color reproduction is poor and has the effect of making Connie appear to be a mulatto. It is not known it this was deliberate on the part of the album's manufacturers. Sleeve front, liner and labels all describe the set as 16 2/3 R.P.M. Extra Long Play.

confranfan SUBS 19th Oct 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Connie Francis Sings "Never On Sunday" & Other Title Songs From Motion Pictures | The following items have all been assigned original USA MGM SE series catalog numbers but are quoted as having been manufactured locally in Singapore. At the time of their release Phonogram went under the name of Phonogram Far East Private Limited, shortening it to Phonogram Private Limited in 1972.
|
confranfan SUBS 19th Oct 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - 20 Greatest Hits (1987) | The above album is a bootleg release on the YESTERDAY'S GOLD label, the sleeve liner of which credits edition and distribution to Movieplay. The same company has also been responsible for large-scale pirate issues on CD and MC formats on the REMEMBER, GOLDIES and NOEL labels, some of which feature the modified credit EDITION & DISTRIBUTION MOVIE PLAY S.A. The solo compilation outlined above has a catalog number in the same series as the company's YESTERDAY'S GOLD range of allstar compilations, and carries an "SPA" copyright credit. SPA is the Italian copyright society, but Movieplay product appears to emanate from Portugal, with manufacture credited to that country as well as the EEC and Belgium. The Movieplay group appears to have a "5000" series of catalog numbers, prefixing these with "1" to denote LP, "54" for MC and "7" for CD(although some MCs have been issued without a prefix).
Also issued on MC YESTERDAY'S GOLD YDG 45709.
MOVIEPLAY also marketed a CD featuring same picture insert liner but on the REMEMBER label numbered CD-RMB 75609. The CD features 28 selections, almost half of them not on the above LP. The above album and MC equivalent includes TOGETHER (First Recording), while the CD features TOGETHER with re-recorded narrative.
