Fokeman 16th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRoddy Woomble - My Secret Is My Silence (2016) | This is possibly one of the finest albums I've ever listened to. The contributions by Kate Rusby & co. only add to its power. The range of moods is incredible with loud aggressive guitar and gentle, quiet acoustic tracks. I think I'd have to plump for Waverley Steps as my favourite. I could listen to that one track non-stop for an hour without being bored. Oh no, wait! Much as I love that one, "As Still As I Watch Your Grave" is the one with so much punch you have to listen to it again. Perhaps this is best on CD so you can just press the button and listen again?

Fokeman 14th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Tribute To Gary Glitter |
Publicity wrote:
"...the recordings are, from every standpoint, top quality."
Yeah, right!
Fokeman 12th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumAnthony Phillips - Wise After The Event (1978) | It seems "Hunt Reprise" was pulled from some other issues of this LP.
Fokeman 10th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Second Wave (1965) | I also have a white label TP of this record, but there's nothing much to look at. It does demonstrate that the test pressing had the same stamping pattern on it, so anyone who advertises a copy with "1st Pressing" is rather stating the obvious, since there clearly was only one pressing.
Fokeman 9th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumUriah Heep - Salisbury (1971) | For those wondering, the large letter U is the price code. At the time, the industry was regulated with universal codes for selling records. The code indicated the price and if the price went up the code continued to represent the price. A bit like buying greetings cards in Woolies or wherever you bought greetings cards. Hallmark for example.
Fokeman 7th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumLucy And Carly Simon - The Simon Sisters Sing For Children (1973) | Yes, it was right after Carly had top five hits with "You're so Vain" and then "The Right Thing To Do" from her highly successful album "No Secrets".
Fokeman 7th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Slógadh Náisiúnta 78 (1978) | This was notable for having a very young Martin Hayes playing fiddle and an early recording of Iarla O'Lionaird, both of whom went on to find stardom with numerous recordings now under their belts. Iarla joined the Afro-Celt Sound System as singer. Martin Hayes was senior all Ireland Champion of fiddling for two consecutive years, joined the Tulla Ceili Band as a youth and is currently a member of the Irish American Supergroup - The Gloaming.

Fokeman 4th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumAviator [UK] - Aviator (1979) | Excellent sax and guitar based prog with a popular feel. Reminiscent of Steely Dan at times.
Fokeman 3rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Stewart Ross Dance Band - Memories Country Style (1972) | Can we double check the date on this. I would estimate it was 1973 rather than 1971
Fokeman 22nd Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumChris Sandford - A Little Bit Off The Top Of Chris Sandford (1965) | A good, fairly comprehensive biography of the singer/comedian in the sleeve notes.
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The British Isles (1982) | Spot the errors. Dave Swarbrick was never Scottish. Royston & Heather Wood are both English. Hamish Imlach was Scottish. John Renbourn was English not Scottish. Gerry Rafferty was Scottish not English. Jimmy Cooper played the hammered dulcimer in England not Scotland.
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Heads And Tales (1970) | Title clearly says Heads And Tales not Tails
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The British Isles (1982) | Obituary for Dave O'Docherty, Irish Flute player who died in 2010
Obituary for Dave O'Docherty
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumNew Celeste - Live (1982) | It says 1982 on the label. We can be fairly sure that is the date of issue... The original issue date for the French release which came first was 1981. [Mod: corrected]
Fokeman 12th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRalph McTell - My Side Of Your Window (1969) | #Gian_paolo, your copy is a Pye pressing which usually has a certain amount of red vinyl in the black vinyl pressings.
Fokeman 12th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Renbourn Group - The Enchanted Garden (1980) | Although Logo had bought Transatlantic out by this stage and owned the copyright, this was still on the Transatlantic label and others followed in this series on the Transatlantic label - see Bert Jansch.
Correction, this was on the Logo label although it clearly states copyright and publishing rights were owned by Transatlantic. A bit bizarre this one, since Logo had just taken over the rights of Transatlantic having bought the company. Despite this, the vast majority of Transatlantic releases which were issued at this time in France, had the Transatlantic logo on the label.

Fokeman 11th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumDeep Purple - Deep Purple (1969) | I wonder whether this was designed to be sold in the UK or France?
Fokeman 7th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Swedish Fly Girls (1972) | After talking to Linda about the Melanie Safka track, she's pretty sure it's not her. She and Sandy were good friends at the time so it seemed like a good guess. Not least because at times it sounds exactly like her. They did appear together on several other records at around this time. They were both on the LP by Brian Maxine in 1975 and both sang backing vocals for the Icelandic band Maggi in 1973. They both appeared on the album by The Bunch in April 1972 only one month prior to this record appearing.
Fokeman 2nd Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumDeep Purple - Deep Purple (1969) | I have a UK issue, French pressed edition of this with a UK Ernest J. Day sleeve and SHVL 759 catalogue number on a French label with BIEM collection badge. It must have been the UK issue because the French issue had a completely different catalogue number. Does anyone know anything about this version?
Oh, I see I'm late to the party. See here...
Fokeman 2nd Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - Three Light Years (1978) | An6y66, you've shown the special edition ELO inner bags. Did all copies come with these? They are quite fun.
Fokeman 30th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMick Softley - Sunrise (1970) | The Rock Buster was a double-album which came out to promote the CBS catalogue at the time. The sticker indicated that one of the tracks from this album was on the double-album sampler. See here... with an early image of Schwartzenegger.
Fokeman 30th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - John Babbacombe Lee (1972) | I think you may well be right Hawkmarty.
Fokeman 30th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJonesy - Keeping Up (1973) | These red vinyl pressings were typical of PYE when pressed at this time. They are black but appear red when held up to the light. I assume a large delivery of black vinyl with some red vinyl in the mix.
Fokeman 30th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumKing Earl Boogie Band - Trouble At Mill (1972) | B4 should be "Go Down, You Murderers!" by Ewan MacColl. So both the track title and composer credits are wrong on this release.
Fokeman 29th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMick Softley - Sunrise (1970) | One of my copies has "April Music Ltd." as a publisher both sides rather than Cop. Con.
Is the date 1970 rather than 1971?
Fokeman 29th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - "Babbacombe" Lee (1972) | Was there ever more text squeezed on a record label?
Fokeman 24th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJune Tabor - Ashes And Diamonds (1977) | A prize-winning album I believe.
Fokeman 23rd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumIan Matthews - Hit And Run (1977) | One of my favourites from this era by the great Ian Matthews. Iain Matthews now, of course.
Fokeman 23rd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumIan Matthews - Tigers Will Survive (1972) | The guitarist is Tim Renwick. I think the stylised T made you think it was a J. But it is not Jim but Tim. It's the same letter that Timi Donald's name begins with. And it's Timi not Jimi.
Fokeman 23rd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumTeddy Palmer's Rumble Band - Teddy Bear (1974) | Just listening to this now. It's pretty good! The cover is liberally covered in glitter along the name of the band. I wonder if this idea came from any other Glam Rock band?
