jaimeeduardo 19th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumDave Loggins - Apprentice (In A Musical Workshop) (1974) | Track B1 made the U.S. top ten in July 1974.
Lyrics on inner sleeve.
|
jaimeeduardo 19th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRitmo 7 - Al Final (1979) | Label has typo on "Mellin," which is Medellín on container. "Kondres" on container is correct on label as Krondes.
Issued also in 8 track and cassette.
|
jaimeeduardo 19th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRosie [Rosalie Hamlin] - Lonely Blue Nights With Rosie (1961) | Track A1 reached Billboard (U.S.) #66 in early 1961. This song was a follow up to the best selling Angel Baby by Rosie and the Originals in late 1960.
|
jaimeeduardo 19th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumEmmy Destinn - Emmy Destinn Sings | Cover shows Scala 804 as publisher/catalogue no. This seems to be a reissue of Scala 804 by Period Records. Everest Records and Everest Group also appear on both label or sleeve. Probable date of publication ranges from 1960s-1970s.
Record title appears on cover.
Label has typo on track B3: "sparch" is correct on container as "sprach."
|
jaimeeduardo 18th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Deal And The Rhondels - The Best Of Bill Deal And The Rhondels (1970) | Container title for track A6 is incorrect: Ain't Too Proud To Beg is actually Words.
Pub. date 1970 is an estimate.
Personnel:
Bill Deal, organ, lead vocal
Mike Kerwin, trumpet
Jeff Pollard, trumpet
Don Queinsenburry, bass
Ronny Rosenbaum, trombone
Ammon Tharp, drums, lead vocal
Bob Fisher, guitar
|
jaimeeduardo 18th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumCésar Costa - Álbum De Oro (1975) | These recordings seem to be cover versions of U.S. pop songs, many hits by Paul Anka, ca. 1957-1960, the probable date for these recordings. Apparently the Mexican market in the 1950s wasn't quite ready for the American/British pop originals so popular in Mexico in succeeding years. This triple LP seems to be a deluxe package issued in '75 for those who recall the early days of rock in Mexico.
Disc title could also be "César Costa."
|
jaimeeduardo 18th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumMary Hopkin - Post Card (1969) | Track B4 saturated the airwaves in 1968 and reached number 2 in the U.S. top ten in September. B7 is a creative version of a familiar song; the track (A4) in Welsh is unusual on this mainstream pop album.
|
jaimeeduardo 17th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumJosé José - El Triste (1974) | Artist's name José José appears on cover, but on label as José-José (with hyphen). The hyphenated form seems to have been dropped in the mid-1970s.
An orthographic note: On track B2, the writing of the name "L. de LLano" (on the container, but not on the label) is somewhat unusual. Note the letter LL in upper case. In checking my Larousse, it states LL is the 14th letter of the Spanish alphabet, and Larousse illustrates the correct usage of upper/lower case Ll for the upper case form. It's interesting to see variations in the usage of the special Spanish letters Ll (also Ch).

jaimeeduardo 17th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumLos Baby's - Álbum De Oro (1974) | Peerless (Mexico) also appears as publisher.
|
jaimeeduardo 17th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 12 Súper Grupos Vol. II (1984) | Los Yonics appears on label as "Lps Yonics," a typo.
|
jaimeeduardo 17th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumJulio Iglesias - América (1980) | There are a number of typos on the label, so I transcribed some data from the cover. The typos are:
Track A1 Filibert should be Filiberto.
Track A4 Obseción should be Obsesión.
Track B6 Ellis should be Elías
|
jaimeeduardo 17th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumLorenzo De Monteclaro - Los Grandes Éxitos Del Ausente (1981) | Track A1 arr. by Irma Serrano.
Track B3 the well-known song La paloma by Sebastian Yradier (1809-1865).
|
jaimeeduardo 17th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRaphael - Con El Sol De La Mañana (1976) | Recorded in Spain by Hispavox.
|
jaimeeduardo 16th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumLos Huasos Quincheros - Chile Lindo Y Otros Éxitos De Los Huasos Quincheros (1981) | Cover painting Cajón del Maipo by Chilean painter Alfredo Araya (1893-1954).
The songs here range from playful to nostalgic, something to make the listener laugh, or yearn for beautiful Chile. Several songs use words and rhythms to imitate sounds-- a rooster-like crowing, a galloping horse, the chirp of a bird. A gem of an LP, one of a series of excellent discs put out by the OAS (Organization of American States).
Track A6 has as full composition credit: Tradicional Isla de Pascua.
|
jaimeeduardo 16th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumJudy Collins - Wildflowers (1967) | Track B1 reached the U.S. top 10 in 1968.
Track B2 has parallel title on container: The Song of Old Lovers.
|

August Colon, bongos, congas, bird calls
Julius Wechter, vibes, marimbas, percussion
Harvey Ragsdale, string bass, marimbula

John Frigo, string bass
|
jaimeeduardo 16th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumSteve And Eydie - At The Movies (1963) | Liner notes refer to the disc title as both At the Movies and Steve and Eydie at the Movies.
Performer credits appear in part on the container, but only for tracks A1, A2, A4, A5, B2 and B6. It's necessary to play the disc to find out who is singing the others.
The title song is specially written for this album; other songs are from movies of the same name as the song except for: A3 is from Lili, A6 from High Society, B1 from Daddy Long Legs, B2 from Calamity Jane, B3 from The Goldwyn Follies, B4 from High Time, B6 from Here Comes the Groom.
Songwriter credits are more complete on container:
A2 Alan Jay Lerner, Frederick Loewe

A4 Paul Francis Webster, Sammy Fain
A5 Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini
B1 Johnny Mercer
B2 Paul Francis Webster, Sammy Faim
B3 Ira Gershwin, George Gershwin

B5 Sammy Cahn, Jimmy Van Heusen
B6 Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael

jaimeeduardo 16th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 10 Grandes Éxitos Del Momento (1980) | No songwriter information anywhere on item.
|
jaimeeduardo 16th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumMaria Callas - Callas: Coloratura | Libretto with notes on insert.
|
jaimeeduardo 16th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Greatest Golden Goodies (1962) | Pub. date 1965 is an estimate.
"The Demensions" is spelled "The Dimensions" on label, but "The Demensions" on sleeve. It's "The Demensions" in my discographies.
Liner notes describe the record market at the time-- how difficult it was to find "older" titles (5 or more years old!). These tracks seem to range from 1955 (the fabulous When You Dance by The Turbans) to 1961 (The Jarmels).
Electronically rechanneled stereo.
|
jaimeeduardo 14th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRené René - Soy Tu Amante (1980) | Recorded at House of Falcon Studios, McAllen, Texas.
|
jaimeeduardo 14th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumHelge Roswaenge - Operatic Recital No. 1 (1961) | Track A4 known in German as: Martha. Ach, so fromm.
Track B6 has container title: Die weisse Dame. Komm o holde Dame.
Tenor's name also spelled Helge Rosvænge (1897-1972).
Pub. date 1961 is plausible, and based on the 61 appearing in dead wax.
|
jaimeeduardo 14th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumEddie Fisher - Bring Back The Thrill (1963) | Recording is electronically reprocessed stereo.
|
jaimeeduardo 14th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Perú Canta (1981) | Notes on insert (11 p.).
Liner note by Mario Vargas Llosa.
Track C2 is incorrect on label: El herto [i.e. huerto] de mi amada.
|
jaimeeduardo 13th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumEl Trío De Omar Rodriguez Lopez - Ciencia De Los Inútiles (2010) | The music here is laid back pop. Ximena Sariñana has an interesting presence-- she impresses me also in the film Niñas mal.
Personnel: Aaron Cruz Bravo, contrabass; Ximena Sariñana Rivera, voice and Rhodes; Omar Rodriguez Lopez, guitars.
All songs were written/conceived by the participants at the time of recording.
Note on orthography: the cover and liner notes are unusually scrupulous in their use of correct Spanish, except for the proper names of Omar Rodriguez Lopez (in correct Spanish, Omar Rodríguez López) which is consistently written without accents, as is the name Aaron (Aarón). Since the musicians with these names appear to have Anglicized them, they are input here in those forms.
This disc also issued as digital download.
|
jaimeeduardo 13th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Estrellas De Oro Volumen II (1979) | The names Camilo Sesto and Camilo Blanes appear frequently on this disc– the first as a singer, the second as a songwriter. Both names represent the same person. It seems that 1979 was an especially successful year for him.
|
jaimeeduardo 13th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRick Nelson - Million Sellers (1963) | Pub. date 1961 is probable.
Though no longer billed as "Ricky" Nelson, the liner notes state Nelson (1940-1985) is still a "teenage idol." Songs on this disc seem to be from 1958-1961.
|
jaimeeduardo 13th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumLos Lobos - ...And A Time To Dance (1983) | Personnel: Conrad Lozano, bass, vocals, guitarrón; Louie Pérez, vocals; David Hidalgo, guitar, accordion, vocals; César Rosas, guitar, bajo sexto, vocals.
The song Ay te dejo en San Antonio is my favorite Los Lobos song. It has an irresistible energy and fine instrumentals. Was a difficult to find selection when I bought this specially priced (low) LP. The song belongs in the genre of conjunto music (lively accordion based dance music), not the more usual Lobos rock.
"23963-I" appears only on container spine.
Lyrics on inner sleeve.
Issued also as cassette.
On the track B4 composer, "Don" is presumably a title of respect, not a personal name.
|
jaimeeduardo 13th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 10 Éxitos Comprobados (1980) | Peerless (Mexico) also appears as publisher/distributor. Sunshine appears to issue these discs in the U.S. without removing the Peerless logo, etc.
|
jaimeeduardo 12th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRichard Tauber - Operatic Recital No. II (1962) | The number 62 appears in dead wax; it's a plausible date of publication, but perhaps not meant as 1962.
"Rerecoding."
"742 Richard Tauber (incl. 466 & 712)."
Back cover shows the title of this disc as "Operatic Recital" and in the discography below, "Operatic Recital No. 2" is listed as Eterna 701, with different content. It seems likely that Eterna 742 is really the second recital, and Eterna 701 the first.
