jaimeeduardo 22nd Dec 2016		Vinyl Album Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Elena Souliotis, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Luciano Pavarotti, Ambrosian Opera Chorus, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Lamberto Gardelli - Macbeth (1971)	Credits for tracks A3 and F1 are shown for Elena Souliotis alone. These two tracks are especially well known arias for soprano solo (F1 is the famous Sleepwalking Scene). Other big arias are contained within large tracks which include many different performers. Other arrangements of credits would be valid. Souliotis appears here in the true Greek/Roman alphabet spelling; previous recordings used the spelling Suliotis. Macbeth is of special interest since the role of Lady Macbeth was to be Elena Souliotis' debut role at the Metropolitan Opera in New York for the 1969/70 season. This debut would have been like the final jewel in her prima donna crown, the Metropolitan often being seen as the pinnacle of the opera world, but a labor strike prevented her scheduled appearance. Her vocal troubles then surfaced; her career at the top ended; she never sang at the Met.

It is from Donizetti's opera Rosmonda d'Inghilterra, with libretto by Felice Romani. This mono set also issued in stereo: OSA 1327.

It is from Donizetti's opera Rosmonda d'Inghilterra, with libretto by Felice Romani. Lucia di Lammermoor is the role that launched Joan Sutherland as an operatic superstar. Though she already had a long career as a singer behind her, her glory years started here. The power and agility of her voice set a new standard for Lucia, even with fellow greats such as Maria Callas also recording the role. This stereo set also issued in mono: A 4355.

Issued also in mono: A 4382. This set created a sensation when released because of its new star, soprano Elena Suliotis, the young singer tackling the challenging role of Abigaille. This role is said to be a voice destroyer because of its demands, which include notes both low and high, big vocal jumps, plus coloratura. At the time of initial release, a 45 rpm promo featuring Suliotis was released to record stores. Her exciting Nabucco lives on in digital form. The voice of Elena Suliotis suffered a crisis several years after this recording was made, and her career as a superstar came to an end. She continued to sing after retraining as a mezzo-soprano.
