Subtitle also in Russian on container: Фрагменты из оратории. Catalogue numbers are matrix numbers. Composer's full name appears on container: Charles Gounod (Шарль Гуно).

The album was published prior to the orthographic changes of 1982. Jimmie Rodgers had a run of top ten hits at the time this album was issued. These ballads are more pop-romantic than his usual folk-oriented material.

Pub. date between 1963 and 1972. (Composer/conductor Robert Stolz lived 1880-1975. The title song Ich liebe die Welt with text by Werner Biffar was published in 1963).

"Grabado en Argentina." This album is a rarity, with some singing, and a song title (A3), in Argentine vernacular. Most popular music from Argentina is sung in standard Spanish, since this is considered a requirement for the international market. It's refreshing to hear some local color.

Here Lindomar Castilho uses the Portuguese form of his name rather than the Spanish version, Lindomar Castillo. Camas separadas became a big hit in Spanish for the Mexican singer Yolanda del Río. "Grabado en Brasil."

Recorded in G. R. Studio, Gregory, Texas.

jaimeeduardo 25th Feb 2014		Vinyl Album Felicidad - Hermoso Cariño (1980)	Felicidad's lead vocalist is Laura Canales, later a solo act. Recorded at Southern Sound Studio, Edinburg, TX. No lastimes más is a well known song by Mexican singer/songwriter Juan Gabriel. Felicidad's Tex-Mex version has an upbeat, catchy vitality that makes it unforgettable. The producer's surname Soliz is interesting as a variation on the more common Solís, which requires an accent. Since Soliz ends in z, no accent is required. Most Latin Americans would pronounce the two names the same way, and spelling the name with a z would require constant reinforcement.

jaimeeduardo 23rd Feb 2014		Vinyl Album Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne, Richard Conrad, Richard Bonynge - The Age Of Bel Canto (1964)	Set title and catalogue number from box. This is perhaps the best of the 2-disc sets issued in the 1960s featuring Joan Sutherland. It includes a variety of unusual repertoire along with some that is well-known. Marilyn Horne takes one's breath away with an intensely sung, coloratura rich Iris Hence Away; Joan Sutherland shows off her top F in a superb rendition of O zittre nicht; Richard Conrad astounds with his coloratura tenor work in Voi che fausti. Joan Sutherland's excerpts from Shield's English language Rosina are light, charming and magical. Credits to the entire team, and to conductor Richard Bonynge, for exploring some unusual territory and for presenting these excellent discs that played a role in making opera recordings of the era truly exciting. jaimeeduardo 23rd Feb 2014		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Goodtime Rock 'n' Roll (1985)	Publisher has offices in the United States and Canada, so this set could be from either place. Am inputting as Canada because of "Made in Canada" on labels. The name of Jerry Leiber, half of the songwriting team with Mike Stoller, is consistently misspelled on label as "Lieber" [sic]. I've transcribed the data using the corrected name. "Leslie" [sic] Gore rather than Lesley Gore is used here. Though records have been issued using both name forms, "Lesley" appears to be the only correct one. These tracks are from live performances, apparently from concerts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These are not the original hit versions. This 3-disc set is issued in a single sleeve with front and back images only.

Automatic sequence (Disc 1 contains sides 1 and 4, A and D; Disc 2 contains sides 2 and 3, B and C). Includes insert (8 p.) with photos and notes on celebrated sopranos identified with the selections recorded here. On track D1, Delibes is incorrect on label as "Dilibes;" on D3, "Obeau" is joined. It should be "O beau ..." Issued also in stereo: OSA 1214. This 2-disc set was one of a series of fine boxed sets featuring Joan Sutherland issued in the 1960s. These sets followed her successful debut (1959) at Covent Garden in the difficult title role of Lucia di Lammermoor, a time when opera audiences were eagerly awaiting these spectacular recordings. Though her debut as a singer at Covent Garden was in the 1952/53 season, stardom took some years to achieve. Her husband, conductor Richard Bonynge, soon took over as conductor for her subsequent recordings.

Recorded in 1945 (Liszt, Albéniz), 1946 (Khachaturian), and 1951 (Rachmaninoff). As the liner notes state, Kapell died in a plane crash in 1953.
