LaurenceD SUBS 15th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDan Murphy - The Dan Murphy Show | Boom Trenchard’s Flare Path was an airport-themed restaurant just east of Lindbergh Field in San Diego, active in the 1970s.
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHank Thompson With The Brazos Valley Boys - Most Of All (1960) | Added scans for cover back and labels; note that the two label scans { 2545149, 2545150 } are from the same disc.
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Robeson - Favorite Songs (1959) | Added scans for alternate front cover and labels. I don't know enough about the Monitor label to say which one might be an earlier pressing. Note to edlongus: I changed the release date - MP 580 was definitely released in 1959, not sure where the 1968 date came from... :-)
Also set this as a mono release; there was a reprocessed stereo version (MPS/MFS 580) which may have appeared sometime later, not sure.
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDennis Farnon, Jim Backus, Daws Butler - Magoo In Hi-Fi (1957) | Re: my side 1 label scan (2545108); if you look closely, you can see the faint impression of a different label: Tommy Dorsey "Yes Indeed!" LPM-1229, side 2.
LaurenceD SUBS 12th Jan 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Dave Brubeck Octet - Old Sounds From San Francisco (1954) | There are indeed 6 banded tracks on side 2, but the conflicting sleeve and label listings are somewhat confusing. I listed them as shown on the label, but upon listening: track 5 contains "You Go To My Head" and track 6 contains "Laura" plus the brief "Closing Theme". I'm still sorting out just which themes constitute track 4...

LaurenceD SUBS 31st Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Norman Granz Jazz At The Philharmonic Vol 15 (1953) | My copy is pressed in black vinyl; also released with blue vinyl.
Original copies included a copy of the concert program (missing from mine).
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Wildcat (1960) | The Broadway production of Wildcat was beset with problems, mainly due to Lucille Ball's health. She clearly was not up to the rigor required for a lengthy run of a musical. Not to mention that she was not really a singer or a dancer... More can be read at Wikipedia and at NY Times.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSam Cooke - Tribute To The Lady (1959) | I added scans of a very tattered cover (ouch!) along with promo labels
LaurenceD SUBS 17th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Jimi Hendrix Experience / Otis Redding - Historic Performances Recorded At The Monterey International Pop Festival (1970) | Added back cover scan with barcode; this corresponds to the label images { 2487398, 2487399 }
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSam Cooke - Soul Collection (1985) | The box/slip-cover opens on the right side; The individual record sleeves seem to open on the left side, so I have ordered the sleeve images accordingly.
Sorry but my copy is missing the obi.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumFrank Zappa - Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch (1987) | From what I can determine, this is a reissue of the remastered EMI release EMC 3501, ca. Feb 1986
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumIrmgard Seefried, Rita Streich, Richard Holm, Eberhard Waechter, Kurt Böhme, Chor Und Sinfonie-Orchester Des Bayerischen Rundunks, Eugen Jochum - Der Freischütz (1966) | Thanks jaimeeduardo, I was wondering about that. I will relocate those images soon.
LaurenceD SUBS 9th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumIrmgard Seefried, Rita Streich, Richard Holm, Eberhard Waechter, Kurt Böhme, Chor Und Sinfonie-Orchester Des Bayerischen Rundunks, Eugen Jochum - Der Freischütz (1966) | Added additional scans from the box and booklet; plus one more cat# for the box set: 2707 009
LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dr. Demento Presents The Greatest Novelty Records Of All Time (1985) | Later pressings (1987 & later) replace the Rodney Dangerfield track on B1 with "Wet Dream" by Kip Addotta.
LaurenceD SUBS 24th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumHans Conried, Dixieland All Stars Featuring Pee Wee Erwin - Peter Meets The Wolf In Dixieland (1959) | I had to clean up the top of the back cover - the previous owner wrote their name, address and phone number (at least there was no Social Security number) with a black marker. There are a few vestiges remaining...
This seems to be the first Strand LP.
LaurenceD SUBS 24th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Smith - Live In Concert (1965) | I suspect that this was released in mid-1966, but cannot say with certainty.
BTW that "enhanced" sticker on the cover looks like it was added as an afterthought.
LaurenceD SUBS 18th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumLinda Hopkins - Sings Songs From The Broadway Musical Me And Bessie (1976) | Here is a link for those who haven't seen Linda being interviewed by SCTV's 'Brock Linehan'.
LaurenceD SUBS 18th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Ruby (1982) | This is the first set of episodes (with promos) of the radio program Ruby the Galactic Gumshoe from 1982. I had never heard of this series before, and I found it quite interesting. My copy was in a plain white cover; I don't know if any additional material was provided to broadcasters.
On this disc, each promo runs around 20-25 seconds in length, and each episode tends to run around 3 minutes or less.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Orlons - All The Hits By The Orlons (1962) | Release date estimated... could be late 1962
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumKetty Lester - Love Letters (1962) | No composer credits on cover or labels, only publishing info
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - February 9, 1971 (1972) | Of the KGIL news reporters listed, Howard Culver is probably the most recognizable, as he had a lengthy acting career, mostly in television.
As far as the cat#, "1260" was the frequency of KGIL AM in those days
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSteely Dan - Pretzel Logic (1980) | I've added scans from an early version of the MCA-37042 release. It has the Platinum Plus stamp on the cover with the MCA cat number, but the disc has the ABC AB-808 labels.
I wasn't sure whether to create a separate entry for this pressing; if we think that would be better, I can do that and move my images over...
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumOphir State Marching Band - Ophir State Marching Band | Sort of a marching band equivalent of Jonathan And Darlene Edwards; that is to say, frequently and defiantly out of tune. This organization is still active, now known as Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band & Temperance Society, Lmtd.
BTW, Ophir (Utah) is an old silver mining town southwest of Salt Lake City; considered a ghost town now, but still with some residents (less than 50).
LaurenceD SUBS 25th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumBuddy Hackett - The Original Chinese Waiter (1960) | This is a reissue of Dot DLP 3169 "Buddy Hackett", ca. 1959, but with the track order reshuffled.
The track "The Original Chinese Waiter" is a different (longer) recording compared with the version released on the Coral single 9-61105
LaurenceD SUBS 12th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Medley - Nobody Knows (1970) | A couple of song title discrepancies between the cover and labels:
- A4: cover = "Easy", label = "Evie"
- B5: cover = "If This Were The Last Song", label = If This Was The Last Song"
The labels appear to have the correct titles.
LaurenceD SUBS 8th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumMason Williams - Music By Mason Williams (1969) | Added cover front scan with sticker (on the shrink wrap); also side 1 label with different composer credit for track A3.
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Now Sound! (1968) | This was issued with a number of different brand names on the back cover; mine happens to have Playtex.
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Dynatones Featuring Charlie Musselwhite - Curtain Call (1982) | Pretty sure that drummer "Walter Shuffelsworth" is the same guy as Walter Salwitz Jr., drummer for the later Dynatones lineup - looks like he was the lone holdover from this version of the band.
The Belly Up was/is located in Solana Beach. I did see Charlie Musselwhite perform there at a later date (with a different backing group).
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Mamas And The Papas - A Gathering Of Flowers (1970) | I have the boxed release - the cover and labels are the same (the lyrics printed inside the box are identical to edlongus' gatefold scans), so... I added scans of the 16 booklet pages.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVido Musso - The Swingin'st (1957) | This is probably the most 'pimply' LP in my entire collection - but at least it is playable, albeit being rather noisy.
