RocknRollArchivist 7th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumFats Domino - Fats Domino Swings (1964) | The year is evidently NOT 1962. No other stereo re-releases by Fats Domino with serial no. 12XXX in 1962. They were released starting by 1964.
See 32 versions of this LP on Discogs. The number LP-12091 starts in 1964.... And no year 1962 at all.

RocknRollArchivist 8th Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumFats Domino - Fats Domino Sings Million Record Hits (1968) | Title:
On front cover: Fats Domino Sings Million Record Hits
On back cover: Fats Domino Sings
On labels: Fats Domino Million Sellers
At least four different US versions of this album exist:
1) LP 9103, Imperial, 1960
2) LP 9103, Imperial ("Subsidiary of Liberty Records" on bottom of label), pink-black label, circa 1964 (Liberty bought Imperial in Aug 1963: BB Aug 24, 1963).
3) LP 12103 (stereo), Imperial ("Subsidiary of Liberty Records" on bottom of label), pink-black label, 1964.
4) LP 12103 (stereo), Imperial ("A Product of Liberty Records" directly in logo, "A Division of Liberty Records" on bottom of label), green/yellow-red-black label, circa 1968-1969 (like all other LPs with similar label such as LP-12390, LP-12398, LP-12066).
On 45worlds these LPs remain mismatched:
LP-9103 (1960) is present, but with wrong labels of LP-9103 (1964); now I just added the right ones;
LP-9103 (1964) is not present, but its labels are wrongly added to LP-9103 (1960);
LP-12103 (1964) is present, but with evidently wrong year 1962 (when Imperial was independent from Liberty);
LP-12103 (1968) is now present here.

RocknRollArchivist 5th Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumFats Domino - Fats Domino Sings Million Record Hits (1964) | Not real stereo, but fake stereo, even five tracks originally recorded in stereo (which were downmixed to mono for Imperial album LP-9103).
It was a common practice for Liberty Records which bought Imperial in Aug 1963: BB Aug 24, 1963. So this LP can't be from 1962 (look at "A Subsidiary of Liberty Records, Inc." on bottom of labels). It could be issued not earlier than its mono version LP-9103, also with pink-black label, issued in 1964.

RocknRollArchivist 3rd Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumFats Domino - Boogie Woogie Baby (1985) | In fact track B5 is unknown instrumental by unknown artist, track B8 is "Fats Domino Blues". Two mistakes of LP's compilers.
|
RocknRollArchivist 3rd Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumFats Domino - Million Sellers By Fats Domino Vol. 2 (1967) | Intended to be a compilation of Imperial recordings. In fact it mistakenly includes two ABC recordings from 1964, "Love Me" and "Valley of Tears", with wrong phonographic copyright "Pre. 1957". Moreover, "Love Me" is mistakenly credited to Domino and Bartholomew (as the song recorded at Imperial), whereas this is another song, written by Leiber and Stoller.
A big mistake of LP's compilers.

RocknRollArchivist 16th Feb 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumCharlie Rich - Big Boss Man! (1966) | That is in fact a modified reissue of Groove album "Charlie Rich" (1964) without its three tracks but with one firstly issued track (A1) and two tracks (B3 and B6) issued before only on singles.
|
RocknRollArchivist 16th Feb 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumCharlie Rich - There Won't Be Anymore (1974) | The titular track A1 "There Won't Be Anymore" is completely warmed over here. Only the vocal part by Charlie Rich was keeped in recording, whereas all the instruments, including Rich's piano, were suppressed and replaced by other instruments playing in absolutely different style.
The piano intro by Charlie Rich was completely deleted and replaced by another one, with the sax and other piano.
Sadly, that was a first (and unique for the US market) vinyl issue of this song. The first (and also unique on vinyl) issue of this recording in its original kind was only in 1985 on double UK LP "Original Hits And Midnight Demos".

RocknRollArchivist 19th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumLarry Williams - Original Hits (1972) | It's one of many reissues of first (and unique) Specialty album Here's Larry Williams.
For marketing purposes these reissues were named on front cover differently: Original Hits, Greatest Hits..., but all them are evidently the same album.
|
RocknRollArchivist 19th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumLarry Williams - Here's Larry Williams (1959) | This LP contains only 10 sides of singles (from 20 sides issued on 10 singles), whereas the tracks A2 and A4 are first issued.
"Dizzy, Miss Lizzy" is same as on single 626 (45rpm), it runs 2:09.
For those who are interested in versions of "Dizzy, Miss Lizzy":
1. By unknown reason the 78rpm single 626 (shellac 10") contains another take of song, running 2:22. This "78rpm master" was reissued in bootleg LP Specialty SP 2225, and its extended version (2:50) was included in double CD Ace CDCH2 1021 (2004).
2. Another alternate take (running 2:44) was issued on LP Specialty SP 2162 (1986).
3. Only 45rpm/LP master is strongly finished by final chord, whereas two other takes are faded-out.
|
RocknRollArchivist 10th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumLarry Williams - Slow Down With Larry Williams | It's obviously a bootleg:
1) Specialty did never release SP 22XX series of LPs (only 21XX).
2) "Pub : Venice * HILLART" printed on labels for all the tracks is obviously fake.
3) No copyright at all.

RocknRollArchivist 15th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumLittle Richard - Here's Little Richard (1957) | @caseellerbroek
Thank you very much for your answer.
Nothing strange in my request, as nobody having American or English version did answer until now (I did ask all)...
I'm writing a discography of Little Richard, and the information about original releases is most hard to find.
E.g., this title "She's Got It" has length circa 2:24 on all next reissues of this album (except Ace LP CHA 128 of 1989 having 2:06) and on all compilations. The instrumental ending (15 sec.) omitted in original album (and maybe on single Specialty 584 where the time 2:12 is printed on label) has been restored there from a new tape given by Specialty...

RocknRollArchivist 15th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumLittle Richard - The Great Little Richard (1981) | A side includes between tracks A5 and A6 the track "I'm Just A Lonely Guy", omitted in tracklist, with chatter and laugh. This is the single version of song (not overdubbed) never released on vinyl album.
A1: Little Richard speaks, asked by Gene Nobles: until now released nowhere else.
A2: "The Thing" (aka "Long Tall Sally") take 2, until now released nowhere else.
A3: "Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey (Going Back To Birmingham)" take 8, previously unreleased.
A4: Take 4, previously unreleased.
A5: Unedited master, previously released on Specialty SP-2113.
A6: Version 1 take 2, previously released on Specialty SPS 2136.
A7: Not in 1966, but in 1964. Until now released nowhere else.
B1: From Atlantic session of February 14, 1963, previously released on Atlantic 45-2181.
B2 to B7: From Mercury session of March 1962, released only in 2014 on CD "God's Beautiful City".
The release date is 1981, as stated on back cover of LP in liner note.
There Chas White says: "A book on the life of Little Richard will be published in August 1981..."
It would be a logical thing to write it in early 1981 or at the end of 1980.
And from the booklet of CD "God's Beautiful City":
"1981 THE GREAT LITTLE RICHARD [Demand 0025] (import)"
