sladesounds 27th Oct 2014		Vinyl Album Ronnie Laws - Pressure Sensitive (1975)	[YouTube Video] Ronnie Laws has always been an R&B-oriented saxophonist miscast in the jazz world, starting with his early association with the rapidly declining Blue Note label. This début album has a couple of decent melodies (the opening "Always There" is the most memorable), some soulful tenor and soprano playing by the leader in a style heavily influenced by Grover Washington, Jr., and vocals on only one of the eight selections; Laws's attempts to make it as a singer were still in the future. However this obviously commercial effort (every song fades out before it hits the five-minute mark) can only be recommended in comparison to Ronnie Laws's later more inferior recordings. sladesounds 21st Oct 2014		Vinyl Album Alloy Orchestra - Man With The Movie Camera (Live At Third Man Records) (2014)	It was only a lucky few iNDie Festival attendees who witnessed Alloy Orchestra's performance of their soundtrack to the 1929 silent film "The Man with the Movie Camera" in the Blue Room. Alloy Orchestra is a 3-man musical ensemble — Roger C. Miller, Ken Winokur, & Terry Donahue — who use "racks of junk," synthesizers, and all sorts of other unusual instruments, found objects, and unlikely noisemakers to aurally accompany silent films. Roger Ebert has called them "the best in the world at accompanying silent films." "The Man with the Movie Camera," directed by Dziga Vertov and edited by his wife Elizaveta Svilova, is a documentary with no specific cast or narrative. In the film, a man carries out his day in the city as a member of the proud proletariat, capturing invention and the relationship between man and machine in Lenin's Soviet Union. [YouTube Video]
