spreadjoy 14th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain And The New Orleans All Stars - Pete Fountain & The New Orleans All Stars (1964) | The cover shows release date as 1962, most discographies show as 1964. The back cover is a generic cross promotion sheet. 1962 would most likely be in original artwork and not release date. Cameo/Parkway for example used stock label blanks with really odd dates on them.
Other Design records had very nice labels.
It would appear that Design was a Pickwick spin off.
PLEASE NOTE: Alternate Cover

spreadjoy 12th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Delaney And His New Orleans Jazz Babies - Dixieland Way Down Yonder In New Orleans (1956) | Whilst this record shows Pete Fountain on the cover, and is listed on Pete Fountain's discography here. The record is credited to Jack Delaney And His New Orleans Babies.
Side One listed in Pete's Discog, full record detailed into Jack Delaney discography here.

spreadjoy 12th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Delaney And His New Orleans Jazz Babies - Dixieland Way Down Yonder In New Orleans (1956) | This is an odd record.
Pete Fountain's photo on the cover, strictly speaking it should be Jack Delaney.
Whilst Pete plays with the group on Side One, he is only a member of the group.
But the album is promoted and sold as Pete Fountain, unless you read the Label you would not realise the true situation.
Side One:
Jack Dalaney And His New Orleans Jazz Babies:
featuring:
Jack Delaney, Trombone
Alvin Alcorn, Trumpet
Pete Fountain, Clarinet
Chink Martin, String Bass
Roy Zimmerman, Piano
Joe Capraro, Guitar
Monk Hazel, Drums-Mellophone
This is most likely Pete Fountain first record, I would expect that the had cut some acetates, no proof yet.

spreadjoy 9th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - New Orleans, Tennessee (1972) | Released at least 3 times with different song mixings, with static 6 +- tracks to each.
The Ranwood CD seems to have the best selections. (In my humble opinion)
|
spreadjoy 9th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Something/Misty (1973) | Some really good versions of great pop songs of the period
Straight re-issue

spreadjoy 9th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Alive In New Orleans (1978) | Not belonging to either of the Capitol LPs I am aware of.

|
spreadjoy 7th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - And The Angels Sing (1967) | Can't work out why this was released on Vocalion instead of Coral
|
spreadjoy 7th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Broadway To Bourbon Street (1963) | The Date is a guesstimate from other Guest Star release around the time.
It is a real cheapo re-issue ? label.
I cannot find: Sidewalks Of New York & Diamonds And Pearls on any other release.
Whilst my collection is extensive it is not complete YET, so I may stand corrected.

spreadjoy 7th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Pete Fountain Day (1959) | Booklet was not removable, part of Inner Front/Back single double sided page
|
spreadjoy 7th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain And His Jazz Group - Bateau Lounge (1960) | On this album Pete does one of my all time faves. Little Rock Getaway, written by Joe Sullivan, I have always loved the 1950 Capitol F1316 recording by Les Paul, a B side. Joe Sullivan did not record it until much later. Pete's version does not resemble Les Paul.

|
spreadjoy 5th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Mood Indigo (1966) | With this album we hear Pete play a very obsecure track, it is widely recorded but to the general masses it is little known. "Bluesette" by Jean Thielemans, Toots recorded it in 1964.
|
spreadjoy 5th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Walking Through New Orleans (1968) | On this album is a very rarely released clarinet masterpiece "Clarinet Marmalade"
|
spreadjoy 5th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Plenty Of Pete (1963) | Yep, a true Jazz, album 8 tracks
|
spreadjoy 4th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Sperling And His Fascinatin' Rhythm - Pete Fountain Presents Jack Sperling And His Fascinatin' Rhythm (1961) | While this album might not be a strictly Pete Fountain album, it does introduce a long time Drummer with Pete, Jack Sperling. Pete certainly does make a great contribution to most tracks. I consider it a Pete Fountain on lead with Clarinet and others on most Jazz records with Jack Sperling showcased on Drums.

spreadjoy 21st Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Pete Fountain Volume II (1974) | These tunes have been recorded many times by Pete Fountain, hence the times I am adding.
This is a re-issue compilation.
|
spreadjoy 11th Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Pete Fountain's Golden Favorites (1970) | A great introduction album for any prospective Pete Fountain fan.
Tracks from everywhere.
Two absolute classic Clarinet tracks:
Petite Fleur by Sidney Bechet, a native of New Orleans of African American stock. Spent time in Paris playing in jazz clubs. A great bio is available on this fascinating exponent of both Sax & Clarinet.
Stranger On The Shore by Acker Bilk and Publisher Robert Mellin.
I make not apologies, I love Petes' version over Ackers', Acker played a Selmer whist Pete played a La Blanc. Pete always tended to have a much smoother sound.
The album has cuts from earlier albums, "A Taste Of Honey", "Plays Bert Kaempfert", "Those Were The Days" etc etc etc Licorice Stick a US charted single in 1964, Pete had 14 US Charted Albums.

spreadjoy 11th Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Pete's Place (1964) | ReviewNormally speaking I do not like "Live" albums, but this production does not have crowd noise during tracks. Some have intro & or intro/outro applause. With some exceptions.
