Dana - The Girl Is Back (1979)
Review
Dana seemed to find new ground and new impetus to her career, thanks to working closely with Barry Blue on this album. The first track "The Girl Is Back (In Town)" sounds deeply personal and is a rousing, mini-opus with swirling strings and bagpipes. The lead single "Something's Cooking In The Kitchen" is uptempo, slightly sexy and funny with clever lyrics and make #44 on the UK singles chart. Dana performs a wonderful version of the old classic "I Can't Get Over Getting Over You". Side one finished with an unusual and amusing update on "Cry Like A Baby". "Break The Ice" is the first track on side 2 and is quite catchy but the B-sides best two tracks come at the end with "How Can I Prove My Love", an insistent chugger of a song that would not be out of place on a Heatwave album. The album closes with the beautiful and classy "The Thieves Of Paris" which shows why the songs writers Lynsey de Paul and Barry Blue should have carried on their successful songwriting partnership. All in all a great album.
