Biography - Elektra 
USA
The Elektra label prior to about 1966 was quite different when compared to what the label evolved into. Prior to 66 it focused on primarily folk and ethnic music dipping its toes into some 45s that bordered on "pop" such as the pre-Byrds groups The Beefeaters. The first 'rock' material was from Love around 1966 which lead to signing of groups like The Doors, MC5 and artists like Iggy Pop. Eventually it became a part of the powerhouse that was Warner/ Elektra/ Atlantic. The rest is history, with the label losing its spirit in the 1990s, eventually getting lost in the shuffle at Warners. By 2020 it exists as a shadow of it former glory.
