Biography - Topic    UK

Originally founded in 1939 under the auspices of The Workers' Music Association, Topic as we know it from its LPs started under the leadership of Gerry Sharp in 1960 when the label discontinued its affiliation to the Communist linked organisation. Since then the label has championed the heritage and revival of British folk music. In the early 1970s Tony Engle took over both designs of the sleeves and managerial control of the output. He has since stepped back to allow David Suff, formerly the founder of Fledg'ling records to take over day-to-day running of the label.

In more recent times, the label seems to have been handed to Proper Music and it is now run from their address.
