Biography - Ventadorn France In 1973 thirteen singers from the South-West of France and seven other performers and song-writers came together to form Ventadorn. Under this name - amongst the most beloved of 12th century troubadours - the group created a record label which was completely independent. The label was made a co-operative to make sure that each member of the twenty had an equal part in its success. These members included Martí, Bernabeu, Mans De Breish, Patric, Beltrame, Nicòla and Maria Roanet. What unified the group of twenty was that they all had the ambition to ensure that song in Occitan could provide free expression, far away from the powerful money-men. The commercial companies wanted 2 or 3 stars but Ventadorn would give the opportunity to all those with talent who wanted to serve a waking population. The team served to promote traditional music and song as it passed through a change: Cardabèla, Ferrine-Flòc, Maria Roanet, Lambrusc were all witnesses to the fact that popular song could become the loaded weapon of the future. Of course nothing is easy. It was difficult for a small company to take on the giants of the music industry. On many occasions the label was threatened with closure but it held firm and did not crack. « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
