Biography - XTRA    UK

XTRA was a subsidiary of Nathan Joseph's "Transatlantic" label. It had several uses. It was the medium for new issues by blues and folk singers, it was a vehicle for reissues from Transatlantic's own back catalogue and also, with a different numbering system, a means by which Transatlantic issued a huge number of US recordings from a diverse range of American labels. These included Folkways, Prestige, Everest and more. The US catalogue reissue series was the 5000 series whereas the UK based issues (mainly) were to found in the 1000 series.

Items such as Pete Seeger and Bill Broonzy were also found in the 1000 series which just goes to show that rules have exceptions.
