Hello Phil and MoreFloyd, just thought I'd chime in and support Phil's view that the label here should be Island. Cat-O-Log is not really a label at all but more like Paul McCartney's MPL (a publishing house that sometimes masquerades as a label). These entities are more concerned with protecting the work of an artist through ownership, copyright control and royalty payment rather than releasing records or CDs.
Universal Music Catalogue is the parent music corporation. So the Discogs listing you supplied in an earlier comment "Island / Cat-O-Log / UMC" is correct. Think of old Floyd releases Harvest / Penjane / EMI or Beatles Parlophone / Northern Songs / EMI and you'll get the drift. So I'd back up Phil's call that label here should be Island on that basis.
Hi PhilMH, as this album is a new recording of the original album (altered lyrics, artwork and music) would Island Records only be present on the labels due to the fact the new album is a variant of the original, Island released album? A bit more "googling" around the net seems to bring up a rather mixed bag of results.
Amazon and JB HiFi list UMC as label
Wikipedia list "Cat-O-Log / Island" (UK / Europe) & "Cat-O-Log / A&M" (US / Canada)
Walmart list A&M
Discogs has "Island / Cat-O-Log / UMC"
When it comes to record companies, labels, distributors, marketing etc... I'm afraid I am still on training wheels. That said maybe "Cat-O-Log" as main label with "Island (or A&M for U.S. releases)" & "UMC" as secondaries would be more consistent with Yusuf (Cat Stevens) more recent releases.
I would go with Island as the main label, because that was historically the label that The Artist Formerly Known as Cat was on; maybe Cat-O-Log as second label, and UMC to my mind is more a record company reissue division, handling product from several labels, than a label in its own right.
Wondering if the correct label for this release should be "UMC" aka Universal Music Catalogue.
Three different record label logos and mention of UMC's parent company Universal Music appear on the record labels and back cover.
