The cover illustration shows the cover of the original release but with the Fontana logo airbrushed out

Carthy had established his distinctive style by the time of this 1965 release; Ian Campbell describes the style in his sleevenotes:
"His interest in the art of accompaniment is known and respected throughout the world of folk music... In the songs he sings the words are given prime importance, his phrasing controlled in the only sensible way, by the meaning of the words and never by the rhythm of the guitar"

Note the inclusion of Carthy's adaptation of Scarborough Fair, which was picked up by Paul Simon to become an international hit for Simon and Garfunkel

The collection includes jolly Folk yarns, ballads and tragic tales, but if you want the truly poignant hear The Wind That Shakes The Barley
