Vinyl Album
Notes Produced by Joel Dorn Julian “Junior” Mance is an American jazz pianist and composer who started to play the piano at a very young age. When Mr. Mance had ten years of age, his father gave him permission to professionally perform his first piano gig in Chicago due to the fact that a neighbor friend had needed a substitute pianist. After Mr. Mance had served two years in the United States armed forces, Charlie Parker had encouraged him to relocate to New York City to record with Dinah Washington after Wynton Kelly was called into the armed forces. For the next two years, Mance toured with Washington and learned accompaniment technique from Washington's arranger, Jimmy Jones. A few years later, Norman Granz had offered Mance his first recording date in April 1959 as a bandleader during one of his sessions with Dizzy Gillespie. Mr. Mance had played with two other band members who in turn had recorded the “June” album which the Verve record company had issued later in 1959. In the 1960’s, Mr. Mance had recording contracts with Capitol records from 1964 to 1965 and with Atlantic records from which the tunes of this disc were recorded and issued in early 1968. Lastly, this is the fourth to last disc of 33.33 rpm of the Atlantic Jazz Series that was both monaurally and stereophonically issued in the United States and Canada.
