Herbert (Herbie Mann) Solomon was a jazz flautist and an early pioneer who had practically innovated the idea of world music which is the practice to intermingle various types of international music with popular North American music. After Mr. Mann had toured Africa in 1959, he recorded the tunes of the Flautista! disc of 33.33 rpm of which the music was Afro- Cuban jazz.

In 1961, Mr. Mann had toured the country of Brazil, then returned to the United States with Brazilian natives Antonio Carlos Jobim and Baden Powell de Aquino. By means of the guidance and collaboration of Mr. Jobim and Mr. de Aquino, Mr. Mann had recorded discs of 33.33 rpm that had helped popularize the bossa nova style music in both the United States and Europe.

This Atlantic disc of 33 rpm contains the tunes that were recorded live at a concert that Mr. Mann had performed the 3 June 1967 at the Village Theatre in New York City. Furthermore, Mr. Mann performed with a guest artist named Rufus Harley who was the first jazz musician that adopted the great Highland bagpipe to be Mr. Harley’s primary instrument.

Lastly, this was the fourth-ultimate disc of 33.33 rpm of the Atlantic Jazz Series that was both monaurally and stereofonically issued in the United States.
