POLYDOR RECORDS LTD release
POLYDOR label - POLYDOR SUPER SERIES
The release outlined above is the eventual TV-promoted package which was two years in the making. Based on the tele-marketing behind USA LP SESSIONS SG-69 "CONNIE", from which it has borrowed its picture sleeve, it was only the second Connie Francis album in the world to receive this treatment. Within weeks of release (August 27 and September 3, 1977) it became the first LP by a female singer to top the UK charts, selling over 1 million pounds worth of copies, and going on to become one of the most widely distributed albums of her career.
This album was simultaneously released on cassette POLYDOR 3177 290 and cartridge POLYDOR 3827 290.
In theory, because of its enormous popularity and success, this release saw four different editions during its release. Notably would be:
EDITION A: features traditional Polydor red/white/black design which includes the circled "ST 33" symbols in white. The sleeve is in gloss finish and with midnight blue background to liner. Scans of this edition have been provided.
EDITION B: features sleeve in matt finish and black background to liner. Released in July 1980.
EDITION C: features a gold block stamp on cover describing it as "LIMITED EDITION SPECIAL PRICE". Between June 1977 and July 1980 the album was selling at the highest retail level. Its release date given to be July 1980. The special price limited edition was for a short period only, offering a minimum 1 pound off the original price. A scan of this cover has been provided. The sleeve, which is of a higher gloss finish to that of EDITION "A" features different printing credits.
EDITION D: features new design red/white/black Polydor label which has a smaller logo and with title and contents set out in completely different fashion. Sleeve has the same new printing credits as on EDITION "C" but is of a matt finish.
This is a UK released album and" Robot Man" was released and charted at No. 2 there.
"I'm Gonna Be Warm This Winter", "Second Hand Love" and "Follow The Boys" all failed to reach the top 30.
Robot Man was an unreleased recording.
This is not a definitive collection, it misses things like Warm This Winter, Second Hand Love, and even Follow the Boys.
I wondered if Connie chose the contents herself.
Mama is for the females.
