Thanks for putting me right on that Hawkmarty. I'd always assumed it was he who did FFC. Fritz the Cat it was. My only excuse is that I was very, very young and living in England when Zap! was about. I have blues guides and other things drawn by Crumb. But it was only the first of these Shanachie labels Crumb produced.

Hi ppint. Oh I knew Zap wasn't exclusively Crumb; I have the first 11 somewhere along with sundry Mr. Naturals and other Rip Off press goodies. I thought Zap was a good example because of the involvement of all parties mentioned :-)

hawkmarty: by no means exclusively crumby, zap comics; many other good (and some, ah, not quite so good) "underground" comjc artists' work in zap, as there was also in crumb's own weirdo, which he launched largely to help promote others' work, and sometimes contributed no more than the cover art (almost always amazing) - not even necessarily insisting on editorial control of the contents. . .

(see the contributing artists listed for zap! in the dice, rpg accessories, rpg & war game periodicals, related comics, underground comics (etc.) "page" (n.b. this is on my old website largely for the now-deceased, or at least premisesless, shop & mail-order outlet, interstellar master traders, so is - at least in theory - of a commercial nature).

btw, fokeman: crumb's forte was/is in drawing (in pencils & ink), rather than in painting - take a closer look at his work! ( *vbg*) (im-nsh-o it's well worth it. . .)

Robert Crumb had nothing to do with The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers or Fat Freddy's Cat.
That was Shelton, Sheridan and Mavrides.
You may be confusing Fritz the Cat which was Crumb.
There is a connection in that the Freak Brothers appeared in Zap Comix which was a Crumb vehicle.

Painted by a very famous artist I believe! Robert Crumb who painted the "Big Brother and The Holding Company's" cover as well as "The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" and "Fat Freddy's Cat". A very famous artist indeed!
