Notes Although Sam Chalpin had mostly sung at lodge meetings and was a cantor at his synagogue, he went to the offices of the PPX Record Production Company to see the chief recording engineer, who happened to be his son, Ed Chalpin due to the fact that Mr. S. Chalpin wanted to make recordings that could be sold to the public record market. After Mr. S. Chalpin had finished recording the ten tunes of this Atco disc, Mr. E. Chalpin had contacted Mr. Ahmet Ertegun, to whom he stated that his father, who was sixty-five years of age, had made his first recordings. On the way to Atlantic records, Mr. E. Chalpin was approached by a record executive, who offered Mr. E. Chalpin $1000 to have Bang Bang and another tune issued by means of a disc of 45 rpm even though this executive had never heard the recordings of Mr. S. Chalpin. Instead, Mr. E. Chalpin hurried to Atlantic records to play the Bang Bang song to Mr. Ertegun, who had stated that this tune was a success, and that Atco will issue My Father, the Pop Singer. Consequently, the entire record industry had started to seek male singers who were over the age of sixty-five years due to the fact that Mr. S. Chalpin was the first male artist to make a debut recording at the age of sixty-five years. Even though this disc, My Father The Pop Singer, did not sell well, this was the final Atco disc of 33.33 of which the mono catalog ID #s were identified near the middle of the bottom part of the LP by means of a rectangle which contained three parameters, and of which the stereofonic catalog ID #s were indicated in the same parameter structure near the middle of the top part of the LP stereofonic. Additionally, this was the final Atco disc of 33.33 rpm that indicated the 1962 thru 1968 Atco logo by means of both the front and reverse jackets. Finally, the 1962 thru 1968 Atco label continued to appear by means of both the “a” and “b” side discs until late 1968. Images
