Notes Although Jimmy Hughes was a successful rhythm and blues singer, he actually began singing in a gospel group during his youth. When Mr. Hughes first auditioned at the Fame studios in 1962, the producer was so impressed that he had Mr. Hughes record the tune I'm Qualified, which was issued by means of the Guyden label. Sadly, this tune was not successful, so Mr. Hughes returned to his day job at a rubber factory and started singing at local nightclubs for the next two years. When Mr. Hughes returned to the Fame recording studio, he presented a song, Steal Away, that he composed to the Fame producer. Eventually, this tune became his most prosperous work, which had nationally peaked at position # 17 by means of the U.S. Billboard hit parade of discs of 45 rpm. A few years later, Mr. Hughes went to the Atco recording studio where he recorded the tunes of this disc of 33.33 rpm. Even though this was not a successful disc, Mr. Hughes sings these tunes to where his vocal qualities have moved him to the the most important position among the top soul singers of the United States.
