Friday July 24th 1964 Columbia 33SX 1635 Tribute To Michael Holliday LP Record who sadly passed away on Tuesday October 29th 1963 at the age of 38 years in Croydon Surrey and the final photograph of the ex-boxer the late Freddie Mills in Soho London.
Given that it was released exactly 2 weeks after the Beatles A Hard Day’s Night album, I can definitely say it wasn’t the first thing people were after at the time.
Thanks - I also saw it listed in an EMI catalogue as mono only. Interesting that EMI weren’t issuing everything in both mono and stereo. I would think the quality of that track was good, as the tapes would still survive. Failing that, a good pressing of the LP sounds fine. It’s not commonly found, so perhaps it wasn’t a big seller.
You are correct, only issued in Mono. The Peter & Gordon live cut from here surfaced on a Japanese P&G cd as a bonus track (and in very good quality I may add).
I'm pretty sure this was only issued in Mono. The concert was staged to raise funds for the then-recently departed Michael Holliday's son Michael. I wonder if the LP royalties went to him, as it doesn't say. The tracks by Alma Cogan and Dorothy Squires have been re-issued on CD, but sadly the whole album hasn't.
