Notes

This copy has an identical cat# 5E-502 to the USA release but is definitely made in Australia, it is stated on the label. Discogs lists this with a different cat# perhaps there were the several releases in 1978?

Phil, this is certainly a 1978 original but most likely bought in '79. Listened to it just recently and it's much better than I remember and actually comes off as a sort prog-rock update on beat poetry phenomena of the 50's. The track Lament ("to my cock") still grates though and on this one Mumbo Jimbo sounds a bit like a heterosexual being Ginsberg being perverse for perversity's sake. The rest though was surprisingly entertaining, interesting and well executed.

Hi Lee, this looks like the 1978 original, as WEA in Australia were definitely using the same catalogue numbers as their US counterparts then. If the Discogs entry you're referring to is the one with catalogue number 502-1, that seems to be a 1980's repressing with the red and black label - the butterfly label came before that. In the early 1980's, more-or-less coinciding with the introduction of CD's, WEA changed from alphanumeric catalogue numbers to all numerics, with suffixes of -1, -2, -4 to indicate LP, CD or cassette respectively.

Gatefold sleeve and mystical waffling thrown in as an added bonus.
