| | Piano Man 45 released Feb 76. Which is why I assumed the album came out at the same-ish time. Never seen a solid orange Piano Man 45 tho, only the album. Yes. very short life. Have seen one once, but didn;t buy it as I have it on Philips |

| | Just checked mine yellow-orange 'Sunburst' variety labels so solid orange must of been short-lived. '76 probably right for the first BJ CBS 45s - would have been little point releasing anything off Piano Man or Streetlife Serenade. |

| | Actually I remember now, Initial CBS Piano Man was released on solid orange labels, so 6/75 would fit. Big gap between the Philips and CBS releases. Is yours on solid orange? Not very common to see. |

| | According to the Michael deLooper pdf - Piano Man LP SBP 234656 along with Streetlife Serenade SBP 234655 were released on CBS in June 1975. I bought my copy as soon as it was available from the Australian Record Club (May '76).

| | Judging by 45cat - Billy's stuff didn't go to CBS here till 1976, unless there is an earlier CBS 45? |

| | Thanks PhilMH - I thought that the original issue was on CBS but on checking I bought my copy in 1976 that's why it seemed strange. So the original Aussie issue would be this Philips one then subsequently re-issued on the CBS label. |

| | Hi Jasper, I think it's a carry-over from Billy's first contract with Artie Ripp's Family Productions label, which released his debut album COLD SPRING HARBOR, and was licensed to Philips internationally. I'm not sure of all the details, but a Family Productions logo appeared on Billy's US Columbia albums for several years as a condition of his being let out of the Family contract, so perhaps that termination agreement included a provision for Philips to retain international rights for a period of time. |

| | What's the story with this one. I know it is a legit release but why on the Philips label seems out of place - all Billy Joel items I have are on CBS/Columbia. |
