Just found my copy of this one while looking for The Doors records - mine is identical to the images added here i.e. yes hyphen in cat # on spine, label, sticker and back cover.
Thanks Jasper, gone for 1976 we can change it if necessary in the future. Your story of what else came that day does interest me as I remember albums in the groups they were bought too. When I bought Helen Of Troy (John Cale) and No Fun (Stooges) I was having a kip in an alley on the way home as you do after a liquid lunch and other refreshments. Only to be rudely awoken by some God botherers thinking I needed some advice. No thank you I meant to say but said something a bit ruder I think but now when I hear these albums I always think of Jesus.
Hi Lee, can't locate my copy at the moment - mine is an Australian Record Club copy - the details I have are in exercise books that I have kept but back in those days probably didn't pay much attention to dashes and spaces in the cat #. Came to me at the same time as The Best Of Uriah Heep, Harry Chapin Portrait Gallery and The Best Of Gladys Knight And The Pips which is probably of little interest to anyone else but me.
Thanks everyone I'll go with 1976 then if the cat# matches Jasper's copy exactly. There is a slight problem though Jasper does your copy have a hyphen between the 7E and the 1052 because this one does on the spine, label, sticker and back cover. Or is that close enough? Hmm... maybe I've been trainspotting in CD World too long.
I've just noticed that the back cover has the Australian Record Club wording ",,,under licence from WEA Records Pty. Ltd.", yet the labels have the standard retail wording "...by WEA Records Pty. Limited". Australian Record Company/CBS pressing anyway, but the matrix numbers seem to suggest the first half of 1978; maybe WEA (and/or the record club) had new masters made for some reason?
The date on this is a mystery to me Discogs lists this issue as 1983 but doesn't have a listing for the Australian 1976 release so I'm not sure how to process this either as a reissue or a separate release so I've left the date off. If the 1976 release has the same cat# we could use that but I don't know otherwise we could use 1983 from the Discogs (unreliable I know) listing. I'm pretty sure the original release had the standard Asylum label though so I know this is a reissue but the rest is unknown to me.
