Notes

Joseph (Joe Tex) Arrington was a notable rhythm and blues singers for more than two decades. Even though his most renowned recordings were issued by means of the Dial record label, he had recorded tunes from the 1950s to 1964 which were ultimately issued by means of the Parrot PA-61002 disc of 33.33 rpm. This record was the first Atlantic disc of 33.33 rpm by which Mr. Tex’s Dial recordings were issued due to the fact that Dial was a subsidiary of Atlantic records. Furthermore, Mr. Tex had composed every tune of this disc.

The first big success of Joe Tex was Hold What You’ve Got, which had reached the top five position of the weekly Billboard hit parades of 45 rpm. Throughout the later 1960s and most of the 1970s, the majority of Mr. Tex’s tunes had achieved prosperity by means of the Billboard Rhythm and Blues hit parades of 45 rpm. However, the only other tune that had peaked within the Billboard weekly ten best songs was Skinny Legs And All, which was a comedy-novelty tune that was recorded at a cabaret. The follow up tune to Skinny Legs was Men Are Gettin’ Scarce, was also of the same type of comedy song that was recorded at a cabaret.

One other popular comedy tune of Mr. Tex was Buying A Book, which was a studio-recording from which Mr. Tex asked why an old male had decided to have a love relationship with a young lady. In the second part of this tune, Mr. Tex wanted to understand why a rich elderly woman had begun dating younger males who knew that this woman was financially wealthy.
