Mods : Could i get a definite decision as to whether you want these German/Dutch made albums that have European retail price codes (and that were issued in Europe)entered under country of manufacture or issue?,as i see they're entered under both currently.Which would you prefer?,as i have a far few more to enter,ta.
Hi Greg, my understanding is that it is still country (or countries) of issue that determines the origin of an album. This is also true on 45 Singles world in regard to the French made Sex Pistols singles and slew of others ie. the 1980's Phillips (French made) EP's of 60's hits by the likes of Dusty Springfield which are all listed as UK releases.
So, this record is my view entered correctly as a European release. However, European and Australasian albums do pose some problems with some contributors and MODS preferencing the country of manufacture over the country of release. This has led to some confusion on the site and also some difficulty with certain releases particularly those with Australasia listed on the label.
For instance when Lou Reed left RCA (about 1977-78) and moved to Arista his entire RCA back catalogue was re-released in Australia and New Zealand. These releases appear in the catalogues for both countries but were made in New Zealand and in the absence of an Australasian category in the country of origin list can be entered as both Australian and New Zealand releases. Dual citizens, I call them but it is a bit of minefield somewhat similar to CD World. These problems mostly arise with records released from the late 70's on when the music industry started to embrace globalisation and combined some markets and rationalised production due the eminent demise of the LP in preference to the cheaper to produce CD.
So, in answer to your question it seems that just like real life the all important market (country of distribution) is still the determining factor here on 45 Albums World. In most cases though (prior to the late 70's) the label will indicate the country of manufacture and that will correspond with the country of release.
Mods : As it's been a while since i've been on Vinyl Album World.Just to confirm that it is still the country of manufacture on this world, and not where it was issued?,only all these scans here were made in Germany,so shouldn't it be German using that logic?.I realise it was issued in Europe however, what's the criteria to be followed now?
Another label variation added.Although not apparent in the scans (white-out),they have a pale grey WB logo,as in Bodston's scans (although the label is white).
