Made in Germany for European release.
All 3 Cat#'s shown above appear on the rear sleeve and spine, 924-148-1 being the most prominent. WX 125 was the UK cat#.
The album's original cover art, based on Robert Williams' painting "Appetite for Destruction", depicted a robotic rapist about to be punished by a metal avenger. After several music retailers refused to stock the album, the label compromised and put the controversial cover art inside, replacing it with an image depicting a cross and skulls of the five band members (designed by Billy White Jr., originally as a tattoo), each skull representing one member of the band: Izzy Stradlin, top skull; Steven Adler, left skull; Axl Rose, center skull; Duff McKagan, right skull; and Slash, bottom skull.
I have added the sticker issued with early copies (Pre Censored Cover) size 147mm x 77mm. After the cover was censored the album was issued with an A4 sticker sheet that included the banned cover image.
I've added a barcode, but I have another record with the same cat# with different label layouts and barcode, as can be seen on the back cover& label scans
Mind you... having delved a little in eBay's basement, a few of those with the banned sleeve contain coloured vinyls... and at least one of those describes it as "unofficial".
Could the coloured vinyls in the banned sleeve be boots?
The coloured vinyls in the corrected sleeve seem to have more legitimate labels.
Considering my previous comment... I wonder if the "banned" sleeve might not be that rare really...
(it certainly seems reasonable available on ebay)
... by virtue of the fact that it was European issue, and not exclusive UK release.
So even if stores refused to stock it, and requested the change, if it was not banned in other countries at the same time, they could have been available for a long time, and even shipped over to UK.
(Might it be that the corrected sleeve - by this logic, being for a time at least, UK exclusive - might actually be the rarer of the two?)
